Just finished this book. I’m not into epic journey type of books like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. Usually, I like reading biographies written by female. Among my favorites are Memoirs of a Geisha and just added to my list, Belle de Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl. Memoirs of a Geisha, the book, is far better than the blockbuster movie. This book was written very well, emotional and engaging. Belle de jour is written by an anonymous call girl, a complilation of her blog entries. Intriguing and funny. Both are great books that I highly recommend.

Typhoon signal 3 today in Hong Kong today. Went to a cafe called Soft Aroma for the first time. It’s a small cafe, cozy, and had a bunch of Nightmare Before Christmas figurines (didn’t really fit with the cafe’s environment but it was cute). What was also cute was the latte art they drew. While the poor little kid next to me only had swirls on his hot chocolate, I had a Doraemon on my honey cinnamon latte. It tasted pretty good too!

After the cafe, I decided to go to Times Square to test my luck on these Adidas shoes I’ve been eying. I actually tried buying it last week but their last pair of size 37 was the displayed one. The thought of possibly sharing feet sweat with other people was not appealing at the time. Still, I couldn’t stop thinking about those shoes and how it’d be perfect for my Japan trip. I needed walking shoes and cute ones are so hard to find! I didn’t think they would still have my size and I was right. They only had 36.5 but I tried it on anyway. To my dismay, they fit! Got them right away…the bonus was I got a brand new pair AND got 10% off for using my HSBC credit card. Total: HK$ 468.

These shoes have embroidery heart prints on them. So cute. So cute.

Boyfriend and I went out to celebrate our 7-yr anniversary last night. Yes, SEVEN YEARS! Would you like talk more about it but that’s another entry…

We took a cab to our 1st choice (oyster restaurant) that I found on openrice.com. Don’t you love restaurant review sites? Esp. since there’s so many places to eat in Hong Kong, it’s good to hear by what people are liking or not. After getting dropped off and a bit of confusion later, we found 1st choice in an alley and CLOSED. Took a few steps closer but there were no opening hours posted on the window. Why didn’t the website say it’s closed on Tuesdays? Or better yet, why didn’t the restaurant itself have opening hours??

Anyway, after scouting the surrounding restaurants, we didn’t find an alternative appropriate for the evening. But thank god for the proliferation of wireless internet and the marvelous invention of the iphone, we were able to find the address of our 2nd choice (another oyster restaurant) w/ease. According to the address, it was only a few street numbers away! We walked up and down the block a few times and discovered that 2nd choice no longer existed! It has since been replaced by a pizza parlor which looked quite tasty. I went in and got a take out menu.

As we were stranded on the streets wondering where to eat, we tried to do some research on the handy iphone again. At that time we realized that 2nd choice was actually not even one of our choices!! The small thumbnail view displayed on the iphone looked liked the real 2nd choice. This fake one actually had horrible reviews and thank god it doesn’t exist anymore or we would have ended up eating at a horrible oyster place (maybe even get diarrhea).

Okay, one last try. To avoid getting lost, we hopped on the taxi once again. Though the driver told us it was only a few blocks away, we stayed on since it was getting late and we were starving. The instance we were dropped off, we both took a look across the street and saw the dark, unlit 2nd choice before us. GREAT… On the window, there was something in Chinese which I believe said “under construction.” Wow. At this point, we resorted to walking back to our favorite Japanese restaurant (only 2 blocks from where we lived) and had a very satisfying and delicious meal. Familiarity never fails to disappoint.

They’re very simple things, some that I might have but not all the time, but having them would make my life so much better:

- for my parents to be proud of me; for them to be happy and satisfied with life
- shoes that look great, make my legs longer, ones I can walk in and does not hurt
- afforadable luxury designer goods
- friendly strangers
- brains of a genius, body of a goddess
- teleportation

Yes, when I said “simple” I really meant “extraordinary…”
